Beyond a strained ego?

When you’re sick of helping yourself?
Have you ever seen an open door
Empty?
After the machine’s eclipse
Will its rays of darkness not reappear
As though the momentary blockage
Was just its own yawn,
Tired, after a long century of blocking us?
Or will we prolong the inevitable backlash,
Only to revert, after much deliberation?
Or will it even come to such?
Perhaps we will fizzle out?
A fading fad?
A fashion statement, now outdated?
Like our parents’ tie-dye shirts?
Doesn’t it hurt,
To think of bleeding into nothingness again?
Should we use that forethought of pain,
To make sure we enact
An absence we can sustain?
And is it still an absence,
If it only allows everything we always wanted?
Everything our hearts have always plotted?
The future is fearful for us,
Calling all to a sounding and resounding
Sometimes we let ourselves believe
That we can take what we want
What is ours’
But do we know what that is?
To that scared, shaking voice, I ask
Do we need to?
Not yet, breaking voice
But we’ll know it when we see it.
